Cashel Estate

Visionary Case Studies:

Cashel Estate -
Stuart, Florida

Kolbe’s windows and doors played an integral role in the complete remodeling of one of Florida’s most majestic waterfront estates. The Cashel Estate, built in 1922, is an example of the glamorous Roaring Twenties Classical Revivalist architecture. The estate was designed by architect Horace Trumbauer, famous for creating magnificent structures including Philadelphia’s Ritz Carlton Hotel, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Harvard’s main library.

In order to prepare the home as the Children's Home Society's 2010 Designer Showcase House, local designers embarked on an ambitious remodeling project. They chose Kolbe’s swinging French-style doors and expansive sliding doors to prepare the home for thousands of visitors and extensive entertaining. The TerraSpan® lift & slide door opens to the riverbank to make the expansive patio an extension of the living room. The design features a pocket that allows the door panels to slide out of sight for a fully unobstructed view along the riverbank. The resulting panoramic view defines the home’s dramatic combination of indoor and outdoor living spaces.

The estate overlooks the St. Lucie River and borders on the Atlantic Ocean, so durable, impact-certified windows and doors with structural supports help meet strict Florida Building Codes and protect it from hurricane force winds. The products are approved for High Velocity Hurricane Zones, and are built to withstand up to 150 mile-per-hour winds. Matching the classic style of this historical home was never a concern with the graceful elegance of Kolbe’s impact-certified Ultra Series windows and doors, because they are designed with invisible structural supports to create historically-faithful designs.

Today, the impressive design remains intact thanks to the historically accurate details of the Kolbe windows and doors that shape the 9,513 square-foot home. The project’s magnitude and the estate’s uncompromising, distinct style required windows and doors with custom options. Kolbe’s attention to detail, including the ability to replicate traditional details by crafting Performance Divided Lites, and their commitment to recreating timeless silhouettes with invisible structural reinforcements to meet modern building codes, makes them an ideal choice for historical renovations like the Cashel Estate.

Kolbe’s custom capabilities made it possible to remodel a classic home in its original style. The windows and doors add the modern performance required in a home meant to inspire its residents and visitors for generations.
